John 5:39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me

Jesus said something really important and I hope it is understood by everyone who want to know God with all their heart and soul today. In another statement to the Jews He says that if they know Him they know the Lord. This brings them into confusion and startles them because they know from the scriptures that they should wait for a Messiah to come and we know from experience that waiting always causes fantasies about the things we expect to happen. People like to think about many things like: how would the Messiah look like? How shall we greet Him? What shall we say when we first meet Him? How will He give us our freedom back and bring us the Lord’s peace?

Have you met in person anyone famous that you like? Maybe a singer or a film star or a sports star? Anyone who has seen such a person whether live or from the TV screen usually is disappointed – fantasies don’t always comply with the actual situation.

I remember once two presidents were supposed to come to our town – Gabrovo – the Bulgarian and the Brazilian presidents. I had only seen them on TV up until that point and I was interested to see how they look like in real life. The town was full of people, security, snipers on the rooftops and it was very exciting. I and my wife went there early to take the spots close to the route the two presidents were going to be on. When the two cars each with the flags of the two countries arrived, the presidents spepped out and shook hands with everybody in the first rows. And don’t forget – we were right there. When I shook their hands I told them both “welcome and God bless you” and I was so so excited. But then I and my wife talked about it and we said to each other, that even though they are presidents, they are still just human like any one of us, but just with more power on their hands. We did good to finish our mission. This is what the Jews saw but couldn’t understand when they were standing right there next to Jesus. They truly believed that the day will come when He will come to Earth according to the scriptures but regretfully they did not recognize the power that Jesus had. What a pity it is to have so much information and to not know ahow to put it into action.

Making up fantasies sometimes comes from the deep studying of the scriptures where every person could build his own appearance of the Creator and his own explanation of the universe. Many people who are obeying the Lord today are on the same wrong path. On one side they have the knowledge and on the other they don’t know how to apply it.

It is good to know the scriptures and to study them but this should only be to one purpose – knowing the One they have been written about. Amen!

John 8:32 „and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
